TROY D MERGES POP & EDM ON DTENSION MINI ALBUM
4 min read[wp_ad_camp_2]
Originally from Chicago, he moved to Singapore to perform at nightclubs 5 nights a week. Vocalist TROY D is now ready to release his new mini album DTENSION! The album features six original songs, two remixes, and sports a diverse sound mixing up dance with pop and R&B flavors. For the occasion, lead single THE NIGHT was remixed by emerging producer/DJ BASSROCK who transformed it into a peak time festival banger, while fully respecting Troy’s vocal mastery. The remix merges the best of both world’s: a great song accompanied by killer beats heavy on the electro house/big room sound.
The album release date is set for June 1st. And that’s when everyone can experience the first single, the first music video, the live performance, a personal interview, and even some behind-the-scenes action! The best part about this virtual experience, is that it’s going to be a platform where people can be a part of how the album, and the next single unfolds. So there’s more for everyone who stays connected.
DTension expresses a period of intense suspense and excitement in Troy’s life.
Troy D: “My biggest fear in my 9-5 was the level of uncertainty. DTension is an extension of taking a risk, creating a memorable experience, and sharing the journey. I came to Singapore to perform on a nightly club contract, but I wanted to bring back and share something memorable, so I created something I can share and take with me. It’s energetic, colorful, and erotic. I reached out to DJShawT in Canada and DJ Freek van Workum, from the Netherlands, who created my productions to the music that I wrote and arranged. I have to give a shoutout to DJ Bassrock who re-mixed two of the songs, they’re both bangers you want to get on your ipod. I didn’t hold back on the energy on these songs and I didn’t hold back vocally. Recording was one of the best parts.”
Troy originally recorded lead single, “The Night,” at Sonic Palace in Chicago, but when he moved to Singapore, he re-recorded it. Troy then reached out to a team (DYAU in Singapore) to create a music video for the ”The Night.”
“We started capturing my shots of experiences here, doing photo shoots, and putting together visuals for people to see my experience here. Even though I was performing five nights a week, I still wanted to do more with what we were working on, so DJShawT and Freek van Workum got the music to the studios in Singapore to make magic happen. Singapore’s thriving nightlife scene gave me the inspiration to create new music. Once I had enough music, I started reaching out to people in the scene here, and they started helping me get together my live showcase performance.“
When you discipline yourself and have an open mind, you can achieve what you set your mind to, you can build lasting relationships and create memorable experiences everywhere you go. Troy lived all over the USA growing up and had his mind set on college and a career in corporate America.
After he graduated, he re-enrolled, double-majored, loaded classes for summer, fall, spring, went back…again for grad school, finally getting that dream job, but by then he burned out of the routine when it was time to finally get started. Deep in his heart, music was calling and Troy started doing more exciting things to leverage his energy, like running marathons and partaking in music competitions every week. Just to be able to escape the corporate life.
Leaving work one day, Troy walked past ESPN zone, ran in, and signed up last-minute for ESPN’s Star-Spangled Sing-off, a competition to see which Chicago local was going to sing the National Anthem for 25k Chicago White Sox fans. Ex- player, Ron Kittle and game operations manager, Amy Sheridan, selected Troy as the winner out of a few hundred locals.
He then got the chance to perform at some of the hottest night clubs in L.A, Las Vegas, Atlanta (Miller Lite), a 1-hour performance at the worlds largest food festival, The Taste of Chicago, and some top performing slots in other large music festivals like Chi-Live, Scorcher Fest-Australia, Interfusion Music Summit. Troy was nominated at the 2012 Chicago Music Awards as an Emerging Star with the single, “Star.” Surprised by the nominations, he had the chance to perform “Bottom of my Heart,” live on Chicago’s CAN TV, which recently pulled in a nomination at the 2013 VIMA Music Awards in Asia for “Best Pop Song.”
